Care and Maintenance

This applies to both our standard CeramicStar finish and WearMax Armor. Armor is harder, but it’s still a finish on wood, and the same habits keep either one looking right.

Curing and Furniture Placement

  • Resume light foot traffic after 5 hours, as the finish cures quickly.
  • Set furniture carefully (no sliding or dragging) after 24 hours.
  • Wait 7 days before placing rugs or mats to let the finish harden fully.

Daily Cleaning

  • Sweep or dust-mop daily with a soft microfiber mop to remove dust and grit.
  • Vacuum weekly with a hardwood floor attachment (no beater bar).
  • Grit can cause minor surface damage over time, even with a hard finish.

Spill Cleanup

  • Wipe spills immediately with a slightly damp, soft cloth, then dry thoroughly.
  • The finish resists most household spills, but standing water will find its way into the wood.

Recommended Cleaner

  • Use a pH-neutral, water-based hardwood cleaner. Bona is the one we use.
  • Spray or apply as directed, then mop with a microfiber pad. Avoid vinegar, ammonia, or steam mops, which can harm the finish.

Scratch Protection

  • Attach felt pads to furniture legs to prevent marks.
  • Use breathable, non-slip area rugs in high-traffic areas after 7 days.
  • Sharp objects and pet nails can scratch any finish.

Humidity Control

  • Keep indoor humidity at 30-50% to prevent wood expansion or contraction, common in Central PA.
  • Use a humidifier or dehumidifier to maintain levels and preserve the finish.

Sunlight Protection

  • Use curtains, blinds, or UV-protective films to block direct sunlight.
  • Sunlight fades wood over time regardless of the finish.

Entrance Mats and Area Rugs

  • Place doormats at entryways to trap dirt and grit.
  • Choose breathable rugs with natural-fiber or non-marking mesh backings, and wait 7 days after finishing.
  • Avoid rubber, latex, or vinyl-backed rugs to prevent moisture trapping or discoloration.
  • Lift rugs regularly to clean underneath and avoid debris buildup.

Pet Nail Care

  • Trim pet nails every 2-4 weeks with pet-safe clippers or a grinder to prevent scratches.
  • Consult a veterinarian or groomer for proper techniques—long nails will mark any finish.

Footwear Precautions

  • Remove shoes, especially high heels or cleats, to avoid dents.
  • Heavy impact dents the wood, not just the finish.

Ongoing Maintenance

  • Inspect floors regularly for wear, especially in high-traffic areas.
  • A deep clean and recoat every 3 to 5 years (15 to 20 with Armor) is what keeps a floor from ever needing another full sand.
  • Not sure about a mark, a product, or whether it’s time for a recoat? Text a photo to 717-320-6393 and Ken will tell you what to do.

Not sure what your floors need?

Call or text Ken at 717-320-6393. He'll ask about the rooms, how you use them, and what you're hoping for, and tell you honestly whether you need a refinish, a recoat, or nothing yet. Photos help. Nobody comes out until it makes sense to.
